Acreage & Horse Property
Ranch style fencing for land that deserves to stay visible.
Crossbuck and rail fencing in pressure-treated wood, built for 1,000-foot property lines instead of backyards. Add welded wire when you need to hold animals. We pull the permit and install it straight.
Built for acreage, not for backyards
A privacy fence exists to block a view. A ranch fence exists to mark a line without losing one. On five acres, a solid fence is both an expensive wall and a shame, because the land is the reason you bought the place. Rails do the job at a fraction of the material cost, which is what makes it realistic to run 1,000 or 1,500 linear feet instead of just the area behind the house.
Choose the face: rails or crossbuck
- Two rails — a clean property marker where nothing needs containing.
- Three rails — the common choice, and what most of our clients install.
- Four rails — taller and more substantial, typical for horses and for road frontage.
- Crossbuck — the diagonal X between rails. Costs more per foot, and it is what people choose for the stretch that faces the road or frames the driveway gate.
Welded wire when the fence has to hold something
Rails alone will not contain a dog, a goat, or poultry. We mount welded wire mesh on the inside face of the rails, so the fence does its job while the road still sees wood. If you are fencing for horses, the rails alone are usually enough, and the wire is optional.
Natural, not painted
Most of what we install is pressure-treated pine, left unfinished. It starts honey-toned and settles into a weathered silver-gray, which is the look most acreage owners actually want. Stain is available if you would rather hold the warmer color.
Gates that match the run
A driveway entrance is where a ranch fence earns its keep. We build the gate in the same profile as the fence, crossbuck included, sized to the opening and hung on posts set for the weight. Same crew, same day, no subcontracted gate.
What comes with every ranch install
- Permit pulled in your County. We file, you sign once.
- HOA approval package prepared when the property is in a community that requires it.
- Posts set for the span, not spaced to save material.
- Welded wire backing when the fence needs to contain animals.
- Florida-licensed and insured, AFA member.
- Discounts for Active-Duty Military, Veterans, First Responders, Teachers and Seniors. Just ask.
- No down payment.* You pay when the fence is installed and approved. Terms apply.
Also available in white vinyl
The same rail profile comes in vinyl if you want the ranch look with no weathering and no maintenance. It reads brighter against green pasture and never needs stain. Wood still wins on cost per foot and on the natural look, so most acreage clients go with wood. See both below and decide with your own eyes.

FAQ
Ranch style fence FAQ
What is a ranch style fence?
A post-and-rail fence built for open land. Horizontal rails span between heavy posts, leaving the view open instead of blocking it. The crossbuck version adds a diagonal X between the rails, which is the look most people picture on a Florida ranch or horse property.
What is the difference between crossbuck and a standard rail fence?
Same structure, different face. A standard ranch fence is two, three, or four straight horizontal rails. Crossbuck adds an X between the top and bottom rail. Crossbuck costs more per foot because of the extra material and cuts, and it is the one clients choose when the fence faces a road or a driveway entrance.
Will it keep animals in?
Rails alone will not stop small animals or dogs. We add welded wire mesh behind the rails when the fence needs to contain livestock, dogs, or poultry. The wire mounts on the inside face, so from the road you still see the wood.
How many rails should I choose?
Two rails read as a property marker. Three is the common choice and the one most of our clients pick. Four gives a taller, more solid look for horses or for frontage you want to stand out. We walk the property with you and recommend based on what the fence has to do.
Does it need to be painted or stained?
No. Most of our ranch installations are left natural in pressure-treated pine, which weathers to a silver-gray over the years. Staining is available on request if you want to hold the honey tone.
How far out do you install?
New installations we do statewide, and ranch properties are usually outside the metro anyway. The larger the run, the more it makes sense for us to travel. Tell us the acreage and the linear footage and we will tell you straight whether we are the right crew for it.
Is it cheaper than a privacy fence?
Per linear foot, yes, usually well below a solid privacy fence, because a rail fence uses far less material. That is what makes it practical to enclose 1,000 or 1,500 feet of property line. Adding wire mesh or moving to crossbuck raises the number. We quote the exact figure after measuring.
